Telehealth Appointments: What to Expect

Telehealth Appointment

You’ve probably seen the word ‘telehealth’ tossed around quite a bit lately. Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, telehealth quickly became the answer to “How do I get healthcare without risking my health?” Telehealth is a term for providing patients with clinical or non clinical services using telecommunication technologies such as a smartphone or app. This means that while the nation is dealing with the novel COVID-19 virus, patients can still see their physicians and surgeons.

Telehealth, HIPAA, and Coronavirus

In the past, telehealth has been a rare option, mainly due to the difficulty of privacy. The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) set national standards to protect your sensitive health information from being disclosed without your consent and knowledge. Any telecommunication technology needs to be compliant with HIPAA rules.

But with the swift aggression of the coronavirus, the United States government effectively waived many existing restrictions on telehealth. This means that no matter where you are, you can receive remote health care, receive medical evaluations and a plan of care without an in-person visit.

Why Telehealth?

At Oasis Orthopedic and Spine, telehealth was adopted quickly, largely due to one main reason; back and joint pain doesn’t go away just because of the pandemic. The people that were suffering from back pain before COVID-19 came to the U.S were still suffering after. We felt it was clear that care could not — and should not — wait. That’s why we chose to offer telehealth services.

Telehealth appointments are easy and convenient. Benefits include the elimination of potential exposure to coronavirus, no time spent in a waiting room, most can be scheduled same-day, and of course, no transportation costs or time. Telehealth is an opportunity to make sure your health doesn’t suffer during the novel COVID-19 pandemic. Our spine and orthopedic experts are ready to help you find pain relief.
