LUMBAR ENDOSCOPIC DISCECTOMY

A Lumbar Endoscopic Discectomy alleviates herniated disc pain by removing the damaged area of the disc and relieving pressure on the affected nerve.

WHAT IS LUMBAR ENDOSCOPIC DISCECTOMY?

A Lumbar Discectomy is a minimally to openly invasive procedure to remove a herniated or degenerative disc in the lower spine. The incision is made through the back muscles, to locate and remove the disc causing nerve pain and discomfort.

Dependent on your unique case, a variety of surgical instruments and techniques will be catered to perform your discectomy.

There are two main approaches which are the open technique, uses a large skin incision and muscle retraction so that the surgeon can directly view the area, and the minimally invasive technique called a microendoscopic discectomy which uses a small skin incision.

COMMON CONDITIONS TREATED BY LUMBAR ENDOSCOPIC DISCECTOMY:

  • Persistent pain, numbness or weakness in your foot/leg
  • Diagnostic results that show a herniated disc
  • Sciatica or Leg pain that is more acute then back pain
  • Condition has not improved with conservative care (physical therapy)
